Flesh Eating Spider Needs New Publicity Agent

brown recluse spider
Just the thought of this creepy, crawly thing is enough to stir most people. Add to this the notion that it can disfigure a person by "eating flesh" and it is time to call the paramedics or is it? Although brown recluse spiders do contain some venom, 90% of bytes heal without complications though scaring can occur and in extreme cases, possibly even death. However, they are often blamed for mysterious splotches even when no spider has been seen. Moreover, most severe cases are the results of failing to keep the wound clean. While I am not a doctor, just thought it would be nice to point out that there is another side to this story.
